This Friday and Saturday it’s time for Pitch festival in Amsterdam, which we think is the most interesting festival around. Every year the line-up has been solid with both new talent and established names. We will be attending the Friday only this year and these are some of the names worth checking out:
First up, the big ones, I don’t think these need an introduction:
James Blake, Hot Chip, Kaytranada, Flume, Rustie and Simian Mobile Disco.
LIDO / 20:30 – 21:30 / Gashouder
Lido is a producer from Norway and also a friend of Cashmere Cat. Expect an energising set full of bangers and quirky grooves.
TĀLĀ / 19:10 – 20:00 / Transformatorhuis
Everybody knows we’re huge fans of this London producer with Iranian roots. Her songs are all good vibes, big beats and interesting twists and sounds. When we first heard “Serbia” last year it put a smile on our face which lasted for days. This is her first Mainland show, and even her third show ever.
PORTICO / 20:50 – 21:59 / Transformatorhuis
Portico have been around for quite a while now, but a recent reinvention pushed them to a more electronic sound. For their latest album they worked with vocalists like Alt-J’s Joe Newman, Jamie Woon and Jono McCleery, who also be singing during their live shows. Interesting and dreamy.
LA Priest / 20:30 – 21:25 / Westerunie
We’ve already written an article about Sam Dust’s latest project LA Priest right here. Curious to what his live show will be like.
SOPHIE / 01:15 – 02:15 / Transformatorhuis
We’ve already had the chance to see SOPHIE live. His quirky, high-pitched, energetic pop productions will have you dancing and singing along in no time.
DANNY L. HARLE / 00:00 – 01:15 / Transformatorhuis
Somewhat related to SOPHIE, as they both have Hannah Diamond on vocals and have that original PC Music sound. This London based producer is actually a ‘acoustic and electronic composer’ as well and has written for classical performance, film, television and dance.
GARDEN CITY MOVEMENT / 15:50 – 16:45 / Transformatorhuis
We also wrote about this Israel trio right here. Pitch describes them as best of both worlds, mixing club-friendly basshappy synthpop with more experimental indie-electronica and slowjams. Guess that’s right.
ZES / 18:20 – 19:20 / Westerliefde
The sound of this Dutch producer is experimental, melodic and melancholic. Expect to hear future beats and (post)dubstep but all done with originally recorded samples.
And if you want to end the evening/night with some good quality house, check out Hunee and Antal
